Weekly Market Wrap: July 31, 2015 Friday, July 31, 3:12 PM ET The thirtieth full trading week of 2015 comes to a close with the Dow Jones and S&P 500 lower and the NASDAQ composite slightly higher on the day, in mid-afternoon trading on Friday.
Most actively traded stocks include Bank of America (BAC) down 1.02%, Micron Technology (MU) lower by 5.67%, Facebook (FB) down 1.09%, Apple (AAPL) lower by 1%, and SunEdison (SUNE) down 8.3%.
The S&P 500, Dow and NASDAQ are all significantly higher over the last five trading days.
Crude oil futures are significantly lower this week, trading at $46.95 per barrel on Friday afternoon.
And Gold futures are lower this week, trading at $1095.00 an ounce this afternoon.
In economic news, in the week ending July 25, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 267,000, an increase of 12,000 from the previous week's unrevised level of 255,000. The 4-week moving average was 274,750, a decrease of 3,750 from the previous week's unrevised average of 278,500.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.7 percent for the week ending July 18, an increase of 0.1 percentage point from the previous week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending July 18 was 2,262,000, an increase of 46,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up 9,000 from 2,207,000 to 2,216,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,255,250, a decrease of 750 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 2,250 from 2,253,750 to 2,256,000.
Real gross domestic product -- the value of the production of goods and services in the United States, adjusted for price changes -- increased at an annual rate of 2.3 percent in the second quarter of 2015, according to the "advance" estimate released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the first quarter, real GDP increased 0.6 percent (revised).
In corporate dividend news, BlackRock (NYSE:BLK) has declared a quarterly cash dividend of $2.18 per share of common stock, payable September 22, 2015 to shareholders of record at the close of business on September 2, 2015.
Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) declared a quarterly dividend of one dollar and seven cents ($1.07) per share, payable September 10, 2015, to all holders of common stock as shown on the transfer records of the Corporation at the close of business August 19, 2015.
Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP) has declared a quarterly dividend of 55 cents per share on the company's common stock, payable September 30, 2015, to shareholders of record August 31, 2015.
HP (NYSE:HPQ) has declared a regular cash dividend of $0.176 per share on the company's common stock. The dividend, the fourth in HP's fiscal year 2015, is payable on October 7, 2015, to stockholders of record as of the close of business on September 9, 2015.
Capital One Financial Corporation (NYSE:COF) announced a quarterly dividend of $0.40 per share payable August 20, 2015 to stockholders of record as of August 10, 2015.
The Carlyle Group L.P. (NASDAQ:CG) has declared a quarterly distribution of $0.89 per common unit to holders of record at the close of business on August 19, 2015, payable on August 27, 2015.
Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) declared a cash dividend of 73 cents per share on the Common Stock, payable on September 10, 2015 to shareholders of record of Common Stock at the close of business on August 13, 2015.
Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE:WFC) announced a quarterly common stock dividend of $0.375 per share. The dividend is payable September 1, 2015, to stockholders of record on August 7, 2015, as approved today by the Wells Fargo board of directors.
Gilead Sciences (NASDAQ:GILD) has declared a cash dividend of $0.43 per share of common stock for the third quarter of 2015. The dividend is payable on September 29, 2015, to stockholders of record at the close of business on September 16, 2015.
And, Amgen (NASDAQ:AMGN) declared a $0.79 per share dividend for the third quarter of 2015. The dividend will be paid on Sept. 8, 2015, to all stockholders of record as of the close of business on Aug. 17, 2015.
