The first trading day of the week opens with investors assessing the impact of Apple's (AAPL) victory against Samsung in a patent dispute, as well as news that car rental giant Hertz (HTZ) was buying rival Dollar Thrifty (DTG).
Good morning, this is Tracey Fitzpatrick with the Week Ahead Market Report for August 27, 2012.
In overseas trading, Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average was higher by about 0.16 percent, while the Hang Seng was lower by about four tenths of a percent. The FTSE 100 was about even and the German DAX was higher by about nine tenths of a percent.
On the earnings front, expect to hear from Brown Shoe Company (BWS) on Tuesday, Ambient (AMBT) on Wednesday, and Bio-Reference Laboratories (BRLI) on Thursday.
In economic news, expect to hear data on consumer confidence on Tuesday, initial claims on Thursday, and factory orders on Friday.
